IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It allows remote access to emails stored on a remote server. We can also store mail locally. The benefit of using IMAP is that we can access emails from multiple different locations and devices but, the internet connectivity is needed to access mail. If we done some changes locally then the changes are immediately synced to the mail server.

Can I change an email account from IMAP to POP if I would like to change it later?

A: Yes, we can switch IMAP to POP account at any time once the account is active.

Check step by step procedure to enable IMAP in Gmail account setting.

Step 1: Open Gmail Account. In the top right corner, click on Gear icon and click Settings.

Step 2: Click on "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" option.

Step 3: In IMAP access section, click on radio button named Enable IMAP. Click on "Save Changes" button.

This action will enable IMAP for Gmail account.
